VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The final three paddlers of this year’s Warrior Expedition are set to arrive in Vicksburg on Thursday, September 4, at approximately 1 p.m. at the City Waterfront Boat Ramp.

The group began their journey in Minnesota, traveling more than 2,300 miles down the Mississippi River before completing the expedition where the river meets the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana.

Along the way, the participants — military veterans completing the Warrior Expeditions program — camp on the riverbank, with some communities providing food and shelter during stops. In Vicksburg, their visit is hosted annually by the Southern Heritage Air Foundation and the Quapaw Canoe Company’s Vicksburg Outpost.

This year, Quapaw Canoe Company owner Layne Logue will greet the paddlers at the boat ramp. The Southern Heritage Air Foundation will provide hotel accommodations, transportation, and meals at local restaurants during their stay.

Warrior Expeditions is a nonprofit that sponsors long-distance outdoor journeys for veterans, designed to help them transition from military service. More information about the program is available at warriorexpeditions.org.
