City worker briefly trapped in mud during water line repair

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A city worker was briefly trapped in mud while working on a water line Wednesday afternoon and was quickly rescued by the Vicksburg Fire Department.

Just after 12:30 p.m., Vicksburg Firefighters responded to Iowa Boulevard near McDonald’s after receiving a report of entrapment involving a city worker. Officials said the crew had been working on a water line when one worker slipped off a platform and became stuck nearly up to his waist in the mud. While other workers attempted to pull the man free, a water line ruptured causing the hole the man was in to begin to fill with water.

Firefighters quickly pulled the worker free, and he was evaluated at the scene by paramedics.
