VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The pilot episode of a new Christian-based drama series titled Liars is set to debut this fall, with its creator hoping to spark conversations on bullying, faith, and purpose while reaching a younger generation.

The project, written and directed by Vicksburg native Anthony Christian Curtis, has been in development for about a year and is now in post-production. A teaser trailer was recently released online, generating engagement that has reached more than 50,000 viewers through social media promotions.

The show, which will release its pilot episode in a limited release partnership with Prime Video slated for November, follows the story of Noah, a gifted high school student who is bullied by four so-called friends. After a humiliating moment at a talent show, Noah prays for his friends to believe in an extraordinary way, setting off a chain of mysterious and unsettling events in the small town of Ashmount, Ohio.

Curtis said the series blends 1990s nostalgia with present-day school issues, weaving in biblical themes without overt preaching. Season one uses the concept of “the unknown” as a central metaphor.

“This project is about purpose,” Curtis said. “We all go through challenges, but those experiences can help us understand why we’re here and what God has called us to do.”

Curtis, who is also a minister, drew from his own experiences with bullying to shape the story.

“I went through bullying and trauma throughout school, and those words and experiences left a mark,” he said. “But I believe God uses those struggles to help us grow and become a blessing to others. This show is my way of giving that message back.”

Leading the cast are current Miss Vicksburg Morgan Nelson and current Miss Mississippi State Sarah Randolph, alongside Curtis as the lead character Noah. The series is expected to carry a TV-14 rating, aiming to reach teens, young adults, and families.

The entire pilot episode was filmed locally in Vicksburg, including the Jackson Street Gym, city pavilion, and several homes along South Street.

Curtis’ film company Christian Pictures, who filmed and produced the pilot episode is raising $10,000 to fund the remaining six episodes of the series LIARS through community support. You can support the project here.

“We’re excited to announce that we’ll be hosting a premiere for our pilot episode this fall — and we need your support to make the full 7-episode series a reality,” said Curtis.
