Remembering Charles Douglas White

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Charles Douglas “Doug” White, 49, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, passed away leaving behind a family who loved him dearly and countless memories that will forever bring a smile to their faces.

Born September 8, 1976, White lived a life marked by a genuine love for his family, a kind heart, and a smile that seemed to always be on his face. More than anything, White loved his family, and he especially loved the kids. There was a special joy about him whenever the kids were around, and they knew just how much Uncle Doug loved them.

One of the simple things they will always remember is that he was never without Werther’s candy—and he was always ready to give it away. Those little pieces of candy became one of his special ways of showing love, and for his family, a Werther’s will forever bring with it a sweet reminder of him.

White had a smile for everyone. His warm spirit, kind heart, and love for those around him made him special to so many. He found happiness in the simple things and, most importantly, in being surrounded by the people he loved.

White was a member of Northside Baptist Church. His faith was an important part of his life, and his family finds comfort in knowing that their goodbye is not forever.

White was preceded in death by his father, Willie Clevland “W.C.” White; brother, Willie Clevland White Jr.; stepfather, Larry “Windy” Wilson; stepbrother, Larry Wilson Jr.; and nieces, Samantha Jane White and Crystal Lee Braxton.

 He is survived by his loving mother, Lora Wilson; sisters, Diane Pennington (Ricky), Suzy Nevels (Glen Dean), and Terri McCall (James); brother, Joseph White; stepsister, Katherine Breaux (Craig); stepbrothers, Robert “Bobby” Wilson (Shirley) and Gene Wilson; and aunt, Flora Allison. Doug also leaves behind his nephews and nieces, Ricky Pennington Jr. (Jessi), Dusty Pennington (Courtney), Mary Kristen Stabler (Corey), Felicia Grantham (Dusty), Jacob White, Alecia Ashley (Paul), Kai Fuson, Lea Ann Mason, Glenda Nevels, Vernon W. Hearst (Amanda) and Dustin Hearst; great-nephews, Kolby Pennington, Adam Grantham, D.C. Pennington, Easton Grantham, Kamden Pennington, Cayson Stabler, Michael Paul Ashley (Carol), Clayton Ashley (Krista), Zach Ashley (Ashley), Cole Mason, Lane Mason and Johnny McCool; and great-nieces, Cali Jo Grantham, Gracie Luckett, Lizzy Kay Pennington, Bexley Ann Stabler, Hannah Leech (Austin) and Allie Mason.

He is also survived by his favorite cousin, Kristy Luckett (Ben), along with many other family members and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.

White’s life was a reminder that some of the greatest gifts we give one another are often the simplest—a smile, a piece of candy, a kind heart, and the assurance that we are loved. His family will miss seeing his smile and having him beside them, but they will carry his love and his memory with them always.

And perhaps, from now on, whenever someone unwraps a Werther’s candy, they will smile and think of him—the man who was always happy to share what he had with the people he loved.

There will be a celebration of life, Thursday, Aug. 27, at Northside Baptist Church, 4820 North Washington Street at 5 p.m. Pastor Ben Luckett will officiate. Visitation will be at 4 p.m.
