Mikey Johnson signs with Jackson State University
JACKSON, Miss. (VDN) — Mikey Johnson, a Vicksburg native, has signed a collegiate football scholarship to Jackson State University. The news was announced Thursday morning after multiple posts circulated on Facebook.
Johnson began his high school football career at Vicksburg High School before transferring to Germantown High School, where he played his junior and senior seasons. In 2025, he became a key contributor for the Mavericks, starring at both wide receiver and in the secondary. His performance helped lead Germantown to an 8-4 record and a berth in the second round of the playoffs. Johnson’s efforts earned him First Team All-Region 2-7A honors.
In addition to football, Johnson is also a standout basketball player. He helped Germantown capture a state championship during his junior season.
Johnson comes from a well-known athletic family. His mother, Marguerite Sims, was a standout basketball player at Vicksburg High School. His father, Trey Johnson, starred on the basketball court at Jackson State and now serves as an assistant basketball coach at JSU.
Johnson will soon play under head football coach T.C. Taylor as he begins his collegiate career with the Tigers.
