Vicksburg,Miss.-Vicksburg High School girls’ basketball team hosted Florence on Tuesday and came out with a 51-48 win.

“Tonight was a great team win and we came out and showed everyone what we can do,” senior Zion Harvey said. “We’ve been looking forward to this all day so we were locked in to win but Neshoba Central is in our district and they(Florence) beat them so I feel we can do it as well.”

Cynia Johnson was profitable inside the paint while Jada Erwin knocked down a 3-pointer in the first half. By halftime, the Missy Gators had a 20-19 lead. A combination of Harvey and Johnson kept VHS afloat as they went up 36-34 at the end of the third.

Starr Amos(12), Kayleigh Chancellor(11), and Ahmya Norwood(11) all put up double digits for Florence but it didn’t stop the Missy Gators from finishing out on top.

Harvey took over in the second half and finished with 24 points while Cynia Johnson added 15. Erwin and Carjessa Albert both scored three points each while Ny’Keria Watson, Raylyn Parson, and Jordan Grace all scored two points.

The Missy Gators(5-1) will host Natchez on Friday.
