JACKSON, Miss. (VDN) —  The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) released a new episode of itsHealth Talk MS podcast on November 3. This month’s topic – mental health – is one we don’t talk about often enough.

With the holiday season upon us, your mental health is as important as your physical health. In the November episode of Health Talk Mississippi, our host Greg Flynn sits down with a powerhouse panel of mental health experts. Mississippi Department of Mental Health Executive Director Wendy Bailey and Medical Director Dr. Thomas Recore join our own Dr. Dan Edney, State Health Officer and MSDH Executive Director, to discuss the signs of potential mental health issues and how you can find help for yourself or someone you know. Dr. Edney, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, has dedicated much of his work to treating substance use disorders and educating others through inpatient, outpatient and community-based recovery settings.

This is a powerful episode that can save lives, especially this time of year. According to the National Alliance of Mental Illness, 64% of people with mental illness say their symptoms are worse during the holiday season.

New episodes of the podcast will air the first Monday of each month and will be available on our YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/@HealthyMississippi, and the following platforms: Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, iHeart Radio, Deezer, Jiosaavn, and Podcast Index.

The goal of the monthly podcast, produced in partnership with Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB), is to empower everyone with the tools to lead healthier lives.
