Park to host reenactment July 4th weekend

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — This July 4th weekend, visitors to the Vicksburg National Military Park will have the opportunity to witness history come to life through a special living history program portraying the final 24 hours before the surrender of Vicksburg. This event will take place Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5 beginning at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the Visitor Center Theater.

 Reenactors portraying General Ulysses S. Grant and Lieutenant General John C. Pemberton will interpret the events leading up to the city’s surrender on July 4, 1863. Using actual journal entries, letters, reports, and firsthand accounts, the program will bring the thoughts, decisions, and experiences of those historic moments to life.

 Through engaging presentations and authentic storytelling, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of one of the Civil War’s most significant campaigns and the people who lived through it.
