St. Aloysius boys edge Canton Academy; VHS, PCA teams fall

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — St. Aloysius’ boys’ basketball team earned a narrow 50-47 win over Canton Academy on Tuesday night, while Vicksburg High and Porter’s Chapel Academy suffered losses in their respective matchups.

For the Flashes, Garrod Bunch led with 17 points, four rebounds and three assists. Alan Stauts scored eight points, and Carter Henderson added eight points and five rebounds. Sadler Lambiotte turned in a strong performance with seven points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Carson Henderson contributed four points and four rebounds, while Walt Andrews posted three points and seven rebounds. Tre Lee also scored three points.

The St. Al girls dropped a tight 39-36 contest to Canton. Megan Theriot finished with 13 points and five rebounds, and Taryn Lusby had 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Annslee Averett scored four points with five rebounds, Presley Carr had three points, Mallory Hobson had two points and four rebounds, and Elle Larson added two points. Farrell Roberson recorded one point and 10 rebounds, and Kennadi Blassingame scored one point.

In junior high action, St. Al’s boys lost 44-13. Noah Ponder led with six points, Reeves Sadler scored three, and Owens Mallard and Adam Dorbeck added two each.

St. Aloysius Junior High girls fell 10-9 against CA. Kelci Bingham and Kennadi Blassingame both scored three points. Reece Lyons had two points and Joy Dement hit a free throw.

Vicksburg High’s boys fell 57-44 to Yazoo City. Jaquez Jones scored 15 points, followed by Jadarius Henderson with nine and Jaquez Marshall with eight. Jaylen Stewart and Daquan Warfield each had four points, while Corbin Walker and Marlyn Foy finished with two apiece.

The VHS girls lost 46-36 to Yazoo City. Jada Erwin led with 13 points, Zion Knox scored nine, Raylyn Parson finished with four, and Saudia Stewart, Madisyn Kimble and Jordan Grace each added three.

Porter’s Chapel Academy’s girls were defeated 46-25 by Hillcrest. Lexi Whittington scored 13 points, Raedon Busby added six, Michaela Chambliss had four, Marley Busby scored two and Brooklyn DeRossette added one.

The PCA boys fell 58-19. Schaffer Bell scored 10 points, Auston Moore had six, Corvin Finch scored two and Grayson Price added one.
