The Scoop wins national competition

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Locally owned ice cream shop, The Scoop, has won national recognition as one of the best ice creams in America.

Owner Adam Cook attended the North American Ice Cream Association’s convention in West Palm Beach, Florida, and took home three wins, including a blue ribbon.

In a social media post, he said, “EXCITING NEWS! We claimed we make the Best Ice Cream in Town, but now we can officially claim we make some of the Best Ice Cream in the United States! The Most Prestigious Ice Cream Competition in the Industry! 1000+ ice cream shops from all over North America & beyond ! 2000+ pints entered! We were blessed to take home Top Honors in Strawberry (the most difficult to win) as well as one of the only shops to win in all 3 categories we entered!”

Cook opened The Scoop on August 1, 2023, having previously operated the business as Bop’s Frozen Custard for years. When it was no longer a viable option, Cook found an ice cream vendor and rebranded it as The Scoop. Soon thereafter, the vendor changed their business model and stopped making ice cream for The Scoop, leaving Cook without a source for the product. Cook’s family has operated Cook Tractor Company for over 37 years, so in addition to his obligations there, Cook started getting up even earlier and staying later to produce all the ice cream himself.

The prior vendor made a banana pudding-flavored ice cream which was a big hit locally. Cook worked for months to perfect his banana pudding ice cream, with locals saying it was better than the previous version. Now, two years later, Cook makes 32 flavors, saying, “You shouldn’t have to settle on only 31.”

The Scoop is located just off of 61 North on Holt Collier, next to Fox’s Pizza. The store is open from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 12 noon – 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Scoop is closed on Sundays.
