VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Tommy Lee Evans, son of the late Robert Funches, Jr. and the late Ida Mae Evans was born on Sept. 4, 1967, in Vicksburg, Miss. He determined his Christianity as Baptist at an early age and was baptized at Rose Hill No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church.

A man of dedication and integrity, Evans spent over 30 years working faithfully and tirelessly at the Beechwood Motel until its closing. Afterwards, he continued his hard work and service to his community through his employment with the Warren County Road Department, where he remained until his passing.

From his earliest days, Evans carried a quiet strength that made people feel safe. He was the kind of man who watched over his family and community not out of obligation, but out of a deep, unwavering love. His protective nature was matched only by his joyful spirit — one of the greatest joys of knowing Evans was witnessing the life he brought into every gathering. He was the life of the party, the one who could bring laughter into any room. His humor, charm, and easygoing nature made celebrations brighter and ordinary days feel special. He had a true gift for making people feel at home, no matter the occasion.

His compassion extended beyond people. Evans had a tender heart for animals, treating every creature with the same gentleness and respect he offered to the people in his life. His kindness, loyalty, and warmth touched countless lives, leaving behind a legacy that will never fade. Though our hearts are broken, we remain forever grateful for the time we were blessed to share with him. His spirit will continue to guide us, his love will remain our foundation, and his memory will forever be a light in our lives.

Evans proceeded into eternal rest Nov. 15, 2025, in Vicksburg, Miss. In addition to his parents, he was also proceeded in death by his sisters Mae Francis Evans, Ludella Mae Shears, and Willie D. Harper; his brothers Albert Evans, James Evans, Sr., Leroy Evans, and R.D. Evans,

He leaves to cherish his memory: sisters Mary (Vernon) Thomas, Edna Dixon, and Bobbie Evans; and brother John L. Evans — all of Vicksburg, Miss.; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who adored and cherished him; and a community that will never forget the warmth of his presence. He is also remembered lovingly by his special friend Dorothy Coleman; bonus daughters Annette Burk of Utica, Miss., and Wanda Rimmey and Veronica Garrett, both of Vicksburg, Miss.; bonus son Gregory Garrett of Delhi, La.; and bonus grandchildren James Mosley, Toronda Mosley, Angel Johnson, Raymond Rimmey, Miriam Rimmey, Jennifer Rimmey, Tyrone Garrett, Tramarcus Garrett, Tyliah Garrett, and Tramarianna Garrett.

Funeral services for Tommy Lee Evans are to be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, in the Ardis T. Williams Auditorium at 11 a.m. with Rev. Johnny Williams officiating; interment shall follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home .  Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 28, in the funeral home with a public viewing from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. with family present from 4p.m. until 5 p.m.
