VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) – A $10,000 grant from Entergy Grand Gulf Nuclear Station is set to significantly boost the operations of the food pantry at Triumph Church, which serves hundreds of families in the Vicksburg area each month.

The grant will fund the purchase of a much-needed walk-in freezer, enabling the pantry to store larger quantities of frozen meats, vegetables, and other perishable goods. The added capacity will allow the pantry to provide more nutritious meal options to the community.

“This grant is truly a blessing,” said Carolyn Cole, director of the Triumph Church food pantry. “Our food pantry has seen a surge in demand over the past year, and this freezer will help us serve even more families in need.”

Currently, the pantry provides food assistance to more than 350 families every month. With the new freezer, pantry staff anticipate the ability to maintain a steadier inventory and expand the reach of their food distribution efforts.

Brad Kapellas, site vice president at Grand Gulf, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting community well-being.

“Grand Gulf is committed to giving back to the communities we serve,” Kapellas said. “Access to nutritious food is a basic need, and we’re honored to play a role in expanding their reach and impact.”

The donation is part of Entergy’s broader mission to invest in initiatives that address food insecurity and support vulnerable populations across Mississippi.

With the new freezer installation on the horizon, the Triumph Church food pantry is preparing to take its services to the next level. The added storage will not only help meet rising demand but also enhance the quality of food options available to local families.

“This kind of support makes all the difference,” Cole said. “We’re not just giving out food — we’re helping families thrive.”

The Triumph Church food pantry operates through volunteer support and donations and is open on the first Wednesday of the month to assist those in need. They also will open on other days under the direction of the food pantry director.
