Vicksburg High volleyball teams defeat Canton in season opener

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN)Vicksburg High School’s volleyball program picked up a pair of wins against Canton, with both varsity and junior varsity teams earning victories on Tuesday.

The varsity squad, led by head coach Linda Johnson, swept Canton in straight sets — 25-13, 25-22, 25-13.

Jada Erwin led the way with 15 points, five aces and three digs. Amari Johnson added seven points and eight digs, while Dallas West and Jordan Grace each tallied nine points. Grace also had two aces and two digs, and West chipped in one ace and three digs.

Other contributors included Jamiya Stewart with 10 points, two aces and five digs; Saudia Stewart with seven points, one ace and three digs; Teagan Stewart with seven points and three digs; and Kenley Henderson with four points and two digs. Divine Williams added four points, and Alaina Williams had one dig.

The junior varsity team also came out on top, winning a tightly contested three-set match 26-24, 20-25, 15-12.

Alaina Williams led the JV team with 17 points and four aces. Zipporah Drake added 11 points and four aces, while Harmony Harris had nine points and three aces. Imani Kelly scored seven points with one ace, followed by Payton White with four points and Ja’Keyla Curry with three.
