Vicksburg named one of Newsweek’s best historic small towns for second year

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg has been selected for the second consecutive year as one of Newsweek’s Readers’ Choice award winners in the Best Historic Small Town category.
“We are so excited for Vicksburg to be recognized again as one of the best historic small towns in the nation,” Visit Vicksburg Executive Director Laura Beth Strickland said in a press release after the initial nomination. “Vicksburg, Mississippi, is full of history going back hundreds of years. This year the city is celebrating the bicentennial anniversary of its incorporation, and we have enjoyed sharing many untold stories as we celebrate all year. We are so excited for this opportunity to be featured among these other amazing historic cities in Newsweek.”

- Leadville, Colorado
- Mackinac Island, Michigan
- Castine, Maine
- St. Augustine, Florida
- Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
- Beaufort, South Carolina
The Readers’ Choice award nominees are selected by Newsweek’s editorial team, drawing on insights from industry experts and Newsweek contributors.
Vicksburg ranked first in the 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards and came in second in this year’s contest.
