Vicksburg police accepting applications for new officers

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg Police Department is accepting applications for new police officers, offering a starting salary of $42,370 per year along with a comprehensive benefits package.
The package includes employee-paid health, life, dental and vision insurance; participation in the state retirement system; more than nine paid holidays; and accrued sick and personal leave.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old, U.S. citizens, and have a high school diploma or GED. They must also hold a valid driver’s license and, if they have prior military service, have received an honorable discharge.
Candidates must pass a physical fitness agility test, score at least 70 percent on the civil service written examination, pass a background check with no felony convictions, complete a physical examination, pass a drug screening, and receive a satisfactory psychological evaluation.
Application packets may be obtained at the City of Vicksburg Human Resource Office, 1415 Walnut Street, Suite 100, Vicksburg, Mississippi 39180 beginning Monday, August 18, 2025, during regular business hours Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The deadline to return application packets is 4 p.m., Friday, September 12, 2025.
