VICKSBURG, Miss. – A Vicksburg toddler is in urgent need of a heart transplant. Two-year-old Alondre Jones was born with a congenital heart defect that left the left side of his heart underdeveloped. Following an unexpected hospitalization on New Year’s Eve and subsequent complications, his family is seeking support from the community.

Since December 2022, Baby Alondre has had to undergo two major surgeries. As of last year, Alondre seemed to be doing well until he caught a respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) as well as a heart valve leakage, according to his mother LaQuita Qualls. From that point, Alondre developed fluid in his body causing his face to swell, and has been hospitalized at the University of Mississippi Medical Center since New Year’s Eve.

Alondre’s next step will be to be transported to Texas where surgery will be performed if there’s a heart available. The toddler’s siblings have been living with their aunt, Shakayla Ross, while the family focuses on Alondre’s health.

Alondre has now had a total of three surgeries and the family is asking for donations to help with expenses. Anyone who wishes to donate can click the link here.

Message from Alondre:

Hey! My name is Alondre Jones, and I am 2 years old. From the moment I was born, I have faced significant health challenges. I was born with a defect on the left side of my heart, which required immediate surgery to save my life. Being in the hospital for a couple of months was challenging for me. The 3 surgeries were just the beginning of my journey. To help me gain the necessary nutrients and strength, I had to have a PEG tube inserted. This tube has been essential in providing me with the nutrition I need to grow and develop. Despite my heart not being Happy, I’m a happy Child and I’m grateful for everything.

Despite these efforts, I thought everything was fine, but my condition remains critical. Recently, I was admitted back into the ICU, and the doctors have determined that my only hope for survival is a HEART TRANSPLANT due to my heart valve leaking again. They tried their best to do everything they could but that’s my only hope. This news has been incredibly difficult for my family, but we are determined to do everything we can to give me the best chance at a healthy life.

To help cover the overwhelming medical expenses, my family is setting up a GoFundMe campaign. We are reaching out to our community and beyond, asking for support and generosity during this challenging time. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer to the life-saving transplant I desperately need. Your kindness and support mean the world to us, and we are deeply grateful for any help you can provide. Thank you for being a part of my journey and helping me fight for a chance at a brighter future.
