Vicksburg, Warren Central freshmen earn Monday night wins

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg High School’s freshmen basketball teams swept Ridgeland on Monday night, while the Warren Central freshmen boys pulled out a 43-40 overtime victory.

Vicksburg Boys

The Gators claimed a 50-36 win behind a strong night from Daylen Atkins, who led with 16 points. Chareck Cable followed closely with 15 points, and Cayleb Logan added 13 points to round out Vicksburg’s double-digit scorers. Gerrick Durrell scored five points, and Daylon Washington hit a free throw to cap the scoring.

Vicksburg Girls

The Missy Gators earned a dominant 44-18 victory over Ridgeland, led by Morgan Atkinson, who scored 15 points. Rocsie Stewart added 10 points, and Keasia Hatchett finished with six points. Kerion Cooper and Rickiyah Johnson each scored four points, while Nykeria Truitt and Chiniyah Mixon chipped in two points apiece. Shaniya Matthews added a free throw in the win.

Warren Central Boys

Warren Central’s freshmen boys secured a 43-40 overtime victory. Jarrad Williams led the Vikings with 13 points, followed by Braylen Selvy with 11 points and Jordan Taylor with seven points. Ja’Ven Lee contributed six points, and Henry Trisby scored four points. Semiko Moody had a standout defensive performance, recording three blocks and two steals along with two points.
