VPD announces UTURN program
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Police Department Chief Deputy Tommy Curtis announced the launching of the UTURN program at the regular meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Curtis explained the program is a diversion program geared toward teenagers and youth ages 12-17. The program encourages teens to turn away from negative choices and towards responsibility, purpose and community connection.
The department has partnered with Vicksburg Warren Youth Development Center to help guide teens toward better choices, stronger life skills and brighter futures.
“We are not going to leave a child behind,” said Curtis.
The program components will include twice monthly meetings, life skills and personal development, required parent/guardian participation, mandatory mentorship, and ongoing follow-up and support.
The first meeting will be held at the VPD Training room located at 820 Veto Street, beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
