VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Although students were originally scheduled be out of school Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 16 and 17, Vicksburg Warren School District has decided to hold classes Tuesday.

The district released a statement Friday, Feb. 6, informing the public of the change to the schedule.

“Monday, February 16, 2026, will remain a holiday in observance of Presidents’ Day.

Following a special-called Board meeting, the Board approved an adjustment to the academic calendar to address instructional days missed during the recent winter storm. As a result, students will return to school on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. This day was previously scheduled as a student holiday and will now be a regular instructional day,” stated the district.

VWSD added, “Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we ensure students receive the required instructional time.”

The State of Mississippi requires students to attend 180 days of instructional time. If the school closes due to disasters or other events, the school is required to make up the days, day-for-day.
