VWSD selects Teacher Assistant of the Year

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — At the December meeting, the Vicksburg Warren School District Board of Trustees recognized Marquita Smothers-Wilkerson as the 2025-2026 Teacher Assistant of the Year.

Smothers-Wilkerson is a TA at Dana Road Elementary in Vicksburg.

The district said Smothers-Wilkerson is outstanding in her role.

“Mrs. Smothers-Wilkerson brings dedication, patience, and excellence to her work each day. She plays a vital role in supporting instruction through whole-group and small-group learning, encouraging students when they face challenges, and partnering closely with teachers to ensure every child receives the support they need to succeed,” said the district in regards to Smothers-Wilkerson.

VWSD thanks her for her dedication to the job.

“Congratulations, Mrs. Smothers-Wilkerson, and thank you for the meaningful difference you make in the classroom every day,” stated the district in a social media post.
