Hosted in downtown Vicksburg from 12 noon until 6 p.m., the celebration will feature a crawfish and catfish cook-off, live music, local food vendors, contests, and a wide range of family activities designed to bring residents and visitors together.

Alderman TJ Mayfield emphasized the significance of the event as more than just a festival.

“601 Day is about celebrating who we are as a community,” said Mayfield. “Vicksburg has a rich heritage that includes some incredible local talent and a spirit of togetherness that deserves to be recognized. Several communities around the country use their area code to celebrate their community, such as Memphis with 901 Day and St. Louis with 314 Day, so why not bring those ideas to Vicksburg? The event will take place at

Vicksburg Convention Center, 1600 Dr. Briggs Hopson Blvd., and people are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.

Admission is free and open to the public, but various food vendors will be on site selling local favorites. “We wanted to make this an opportunity for local businesses to highlight themselves but also encourage people to come home for the weekend. This event allows us to showcase all of that while creating lasting memories for families. I met with several community members, including Raymond Banks, last year and we agreed that our city has enough talented cooks and musicians to come together and celebrate Vicksburg.”

“Events like this strengthen community bonds and support local businesses,” Mayfield added. “We invite everyone and encourage people to invite neighboring communities as well.
