Six inmates at the Kemper County Regional Correctional Facility have earned their General Educational Development diplomas, marking another milestone in the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ efforts to promote rehabilitation through education.

MDOC officials said educational programs remain a key part of the agency’s mission to reduce recidivism, increase employability and equip incarcerated individuals with the skills needed to become productive citizens after their release.

Director of Private and Regional Facilities Derrick Chambers praised Warden Byron Walker, Kemper County Sheriff James Moore and the facility’s education staff for their commitment to providing inmates with opportunities for personal growth and rehabilitation.

“Success stories like this reflect our continued focus on rehabilitation, accountability, and preparing individuals for a successful return to society,” Chambers said. “Education opens doors, creates opportunities, and helps individuals build a foundation for a better future.”
