A Soldier’s Rest: Two unclaimed Veterans’ bodies honored in Vicksburg

VICKSBURG, MS. – Two veterans who died in the last year in Hinds County, who had their bodies unclaimed, will now get a proper soldier’s rest. The men, Richard Lee Wetterling, former US Navy, and Jack K. Waters, former US Army will be laid to rest today at the Natchez National Cemetery. Mamie Brown from the Hinds County Veterans Office discovered both men were honorably discharged and Brown wanted to give them a proper burial.

Larry Chisley of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home in Vicksburg heard the news of the unclaimed soldiers remains and provided the soldiers’ caskets as well as hearses, free of charge, in honor of the men.

Dr. Robert Jackson, a deputy with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, along with others reached out to the Mississippi Patriot Guard Riders who will escort the processionfrom Vicksburg to Natchez where they will be properly interred with honors at the Natchez National Cemetery for their final soldier’s rest.
