KAUAI, Hawaii.(VDN) — Chuck Norris, the legendary martial artist, actor and cultural icon known for his roles in action films and the television series Walker, Texas Ranger, has died, his family announced Friday. He was 86.

In a statement, the Norris family said he died Wednesday morning surrounded by loved ones.

“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the statement read. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

Norris rose to international fame as a martial artist before transitioning into a successful acting career, starring in numerous action films and becoming a household name through Walker, Texas Ranger, which aired for eight seasons. Known for his toughness and stoic screen presence, he later became a pop culture phenomenon through widely shared internet memes celebrating his strength and persona.

Beyond his on-screen career, his family described him as deeply devoted to those closest to him.

“To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength,” the family said. “To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”

The family noted that Norris lived with strong faith and purpose and inspired millions through his discipline, work ethic and kindness.

They also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans, particularly following his recent hospitalization.

“The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him,” the statement said. “To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends.”

The family asked for privacy as they mourn his loss.
