At this place: Cherry St. 100 years apart

VICKSBURG, Miss. – If you’ve ever traveled down Cherry Street then you might recognize this spot. The arched bridge that now passes over the rail road tracks on Cherry, near West Magnolia and Holly Street, was completed in 1911 and has a total span of almost 110 feet. Before the bridge existed, the road descended down the hill and intersected with the train tracks. The distinct steeple of the Church of the Holy Trinity is visible in the distance.

The first image is part of the Old Court House Museum’s J. Mack Moore collection and was taken around 1890 facing North-West. The second image was recently taken by Chris Bolm.
The Old Courthouse Museum has an amazing collection of old photos taken in the Vicksburg and Warren County area, including a collection of the construction of the Cherry St. bridge. If you are ever interested in getting an old photo printed for your home or business, contact the Old Courthouse Museum and they can make it happen.
Starting in 2022, Chris Bolm began to take images from the Old Court House Museum‘s photo collections and pinpoint their current locations and replicate the shot. Bolm named the series “Then and Now.”
