HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (VDN) — A tragedy has hit the local community after a 31-year-old Vicksburg woman was killed Friday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Hinds County, according to authorities.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the wreck happened near the 23-mile marker in Hinds County when an 18-wheeler collided with a Honda Passport driven by 31-year-old Elizabeth Nelson of Vicksburg. The impact caused the truck to strike another 18-wheeler.

Troopers said no one in either of the 18-wheelers was injured. Nelson, however, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
