Cage, Gibson, Slaughter named basketball cheerleading captains at Warren Central

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Jamisen Cage, Derriona Gibson and Arie’Elle Slaughter have been selected as captains of the Warren Central High School basketball cheerleading team. Cage will serve as head captain, while Gibson and Slaughter will be co-captains. The trio was chosen by head coach Erica Wilson.

Cage:

Cage steps into her first year as head captain after serving as a co-captain last season. She learned of her new role in April.

Jamisen Cage

“I was very excited, and I’m proud of everything I accomplished,” Cage said.

Cage has cheered for Warren Central since seventh grade and enjoys competing against other teams. As head captain, she will lead the squad, teach cheers and guide her teammates. She is also involved in Key Club, Red Cord, serves as class vice president, and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society. She is a 2025-2026 debutante. Cage is the daughter of Renarda McDaniel and James Lee and plans to attend Ole Miss.

Gibson:

Gibson begins her first leadership role as co-captain. She has loved cheering throughout her high school career.

“Cheering is a way of expressing myself,” Gibson said. “I’m vocal, but cheering helps me express myself without overthinking what I’m saying.”

Gibson is active in Key Club, Red Cord, Mu Alpha Theta, First Priority, Debutante, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and was a band member for three years. She plans to attend Southern University and is the daughter of Derrick Williams and LaToya Gibson.

Slaughter:

Slaughter also steps into a new co-captain role.

“I’m really excited because I’ve been waiting so long, and I’m glad that I’m a senior and that it happened,” she said.

Arie’Elle Slaughter

A fan of stomp and shake, Slaughter has cheered since her freshman year. Her expanded duties include helping with “Meet the Vikes,” leading cheers and organizing practices. She is involved in band, National Honor Society, Red Cord, National Technical Honor Society, Key Club, and is an honor-roll student. She is the daughter of Michael Odom and Brenda Slaughter.

All three captains—Cage, Gibson and Slaughter—were also named All-Americans.
