Warren Central crushes Neshoba Central 42-13 to remain undefeated in district play
PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School’s football team improved to 6-2 on the season and remained unbeaten in district play after crushing Neshoba Central 42-13 on the road Friday night. The Vikings (6-2, 3-0) remain the No. 1 team in their district following the dominant win.
The Vikings jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter after three rushing touchdowns. Sophomore Javid Scott opened the scoring with a 61-yard touchdown run, breaking multiple tackles after a trap block from Marquise Overton. Xavier Jackson followed with a 24-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Nash Morgan capped the drive with a 10-yard score. Jonah Artman connected on all three extra-point attempts.
Warren Central’s defense stayed strong in the second quarter. Samuel Ross delivered a big hit on a fourth-down stop, while Fabien Davenport and Micah Moore combined for a key tackle in the backfield.
With six minutes remaining before halftime, Morgan connected with Mike Hall for a 39-yard touchdown pass to extend WC’s lead to 28-7. Neshoba Central scored once more before the break to make it 28-13.
The Vikings’ defense continued to dominate in the third quarter. Graham Streif and Cordero Reed broke up passes, and Caleb Lane intercepted one to keep the Rockets in check. Scott added his second touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run with about four minutes left in the quarter.
Ross and Moore each recorded a sack late in the game, while T’Kylan Wright and Davenport made several crucial stops. Fred Mixon sealed the win with an 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Warren Central will travel to play Callaway next Friday. A win would clinch the district championship for the Vikings.
