Three Vicksburg natives turned in solid defensive performances for their respective college football teams over the weekend.

Defensive linemen Ronnie Blossom, Demarcus Johnson and Tyler Carter each started and recorded multiple tackles, while fellow Vicksburg native Caleb Bryant also contributed defensively for Southwest Mississippi Community College.

Blossom, a Warren Central High School graduate, recorded five tackles and one sack as nationally ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College defeated Jones College 41-34.

Carter helped South Alabama cruise to a 52-35 victory over Louisiana-Monroe. The former Vicksburg High School standout finished with four tackles in the win.

Johnson led the local group statistically with six tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss for Southwest Mississippi Community College in a 28-13 loss to Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

Bryant, Johnson’s Southwest teammate and another Vicksburg native, added three tackles.

Carter, Johnson and Bryant were teammates at Vicksburg High School before continuing their football careers at the college level. Blossom played across town at Warren Central, putting the four local standouts on opposite sides of the Vicksburg-Warren Central rivalry before their paths eventually took them to college football.
