VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
Vicksburg High School linebacker Wallyss Curry has surpassed the 100-tackle mark just six games into the 2026 football season.
Curry, an All-State linebacker, has recorded 102 tackles this season and continues to establish himself as one of the top linebackers in Mississippi.
The Vicksburg Daily News’ 2025 Defensive Player of the Year entered his senior season with a goal of recording more than 200 tackles. He is currently averaging 17 tackles per game, putting him on pace to make a run at that mark.
According to MaxPreps, Curry ranks No. 15 nationally in total tackles while sitting No. 1 in Mississippi and No. 1 in MHSAA Class 5A Region 2. Of his 102 tackles, 64 have been solo stops, which ranks seventh nationally.
Curry’s biggest performance of the season came against Ridgeland, when he recorded 24 tackles, including 14 solo stops. He also finished with 18 tackles against Leake Central.
His production has also attracted attention from college programs. Curry currently holds 11 scholarship offers to play at the next level, including offers from Jackson State and Alcorn State.
Vicksburg will have an open week before returning to action next Friday against Provine. The Gators have four games remaining in the regular season, giving Curry an opportunity to continue his pursuit of the 200-tackle mark.
