City water is still safe to drink
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Many residents raised concerns after receiving a postcard in the mail stating the City of Vicksburg’s water was out of compliance.
According to the public release, the City of Vicksburg did not complete all of the required monitoring or testing for Chlorine during the month of November in 2025. According regulations, the municipal water service is required to take 30 samples a month, but during the month in question, the City of Vicksburg only took 29 samples.
As a national mandate from the Environmental Protection Agency, Chlorine is used as a disinfectant additive to public drinking water supplies. The amounts cannot be greater than 0.040 mg/L.
Because the City was techniques out of compliance, they were required to report to the public. Therefore, the city sent the post cards.
The public announcement also stated the City expects to return to compliance by April 1, 2026.
City of Vicksburg Ward 1 Alderman Thomas “TJ” Mayfield wants to take the opportunity to reassure residents.
“Mr. Busby of Inframark discussed this issue in our board meeting on February 25 and assured all of us that this issue was nothing more than a clerical error. We are not under a boil-water notice, and our current water system is not contaminated. The mailouts are required by law, and it is not any cause for alarm with the recent notice,” said Alderman Mayfield.
