VICKSBURG, Miss. — The family of Jamison “Jay” Friley is seeking community support to honor his life with a memorial service following his unexpected death on Dec. 1, 2024, just six days before his 25th birthday.

According to the Vicksburg Police Department, units were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision with injuries. The vehicle was discovered near 5525 Highway 61 South at around 4:14 a.m. Upon arrival, officers observed minor damage to a vehicle and a white male in the driver’s seat. He was unresponsive. Vicksburg Coroner Doug Huskey pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to the family, Friley was involved in an altercation prior to his death and later reported feeling unwell. His last message to a friend indicated he was struggling to keep his eyes open. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.

Described by loved ones as “bright, loving, caring, and tender-hearted,” Friley was known for his vibrant personality and unwavering love for his family. His family recalls his devotion to his young son, Ace, as well as his nieces and nephews.

“Jay had a smile that could turn a horrible day into the best day,” said a family member. “Everywhere he went, he made a friend. He was the life of the party and always made sure his loved ones knew how much he cared.”

The family noted that they were unprepared for the sudden financial burden of planning a memorial service and have experienced multiple family losses over the past six years. With the holidays approaching, they expressed the emotional toll of losing a loved one during this time of year.

Friends, family, and members of the community who knew Jay are being asked to help give him the memorial his family feels he deserves. You can donate here.
