Goss, Slayton, and Jung sign athletic scholarships

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Porter’s Chapel Academy athletes Jase Jung, Henry Slayton, and Kylie Goss signed collegiate scholarships Thursday during a ceremony at the school celebrating their achievements.
Goss signs with Hinds Community College
Kylie Goss signed a cheerleading scholarship to Hinds Community College. The senior chose to stay close to home, attending the Raymond campus.

“I didn’t want to end cheering in high school, so I chose to pursue it in college as well,” Goss said. “I also chose Hinds because I want to be a part of their radiology program.”
Goss began cheering in seventh grade under coach Shawn Lee at Warren Central Junior High. She continued at Warren Central High School, where her team finished ninth in the nation.
“Going to Nationals and having that experience at Disney was one of the most memorable moments I have of cheering,” she said.
She was also named an All-American in high school and joined PCA’s cheer team for her senior season.
“I had a lot of fun at PCA, and I’m glad I got to experience it,” she said.
Goss is the daughter of T.L. and Cathy Ann Goss.
Jung headed to Simpson University
Jase Jung signed with Simpson University in California. The standout running back chose the school for its family ties—his father and grandparents are alumni—and its football program.

“I love their facilities, the coaches loved me, and I think they have my best interest,” Jung said.
Jung rushed for 3,712 yards and 48 touchdowns during his senior year, finishing his high school career with 6,422 rushing yards and 87 touchdowns. At Simpson, he will transition to playing strong safety.
“I didn’t think I would be playing defense, but I’m just excited to be playing college ball,” he said. “Growing up I always wanted to do big things, and this is a huge accomplishment.”
Jung helped lead PCA to the playoffs all four years as a starter.
“I want to thank my parents and Coach Purvis for getting me this far,” he said. “I also want to thank my teammates and everyone who has helped me along the way.”

He is the son of Michael and Cari Jung.
Slayton signs for tennis at Hinds
Henry Slayton signed a tennis scholarship with Hinds Community College after recently winning a district championship.

“I love that it’s close to home and it’s a good fit for me,” Slayton said. “The coaches are really nice and the facilities are great.”
Slayton began playing tennis at age 5 under coach Rick Shields. He also played football and ran track at PCA.
“I’m very excited because I didn’t want to stop in high school,” he said. “I want to thank my parents and all of my coaches over the years.”
