Henderson’s buzzer-beater lifts Gators to district win

JACKSON, Miss.(VDN) — Jadarius Henderson hit a buzzer-beater Friday to lift Vicksburg High School to a 32-31 win over Florence in the district tournament and secure the No. 3 seed.

Defense dominated throughout, and neither team was able to create much separation. The Gators trailed 8-7 after the first quarter and faced a 17-16 deficit at halftime.

Jaquez Jones carried much of the load early, knocking down five free throws in the first half. Henderson added a key 3-pointer in the second quarter to keep VHS within striking distance.

In the second half, Jaquez Marshall hit two big shots in the third quarter. Jones buried a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth to help set the stage for Henderson’s game-winner.

Jones led the Gators with 11 points, while Henderson finished with seven. Marshall scored six points, and Marlyn Foy added five.

Vicksburg High will enter the state playoffs beginning next week.
