VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — St. Aloysius opened the season in dominant fashion Tuesday, shutting out Cathedral 5-0 to give head coach Gio Baldizon a win in the opener and the Lady Flashes a 1-0 record.

Sarah Smith led the way offensively with two goals. Lynlee McMillin, Mary Ruth Montgomery and Rileyanne Smithhart each added one goal to round out the scoring.

Smith anchored the defense with four saves as St. Aloysius controlled play throughout the night.

“The team did a well job moving the ball forward and we had a seventh grader, LanieMarie Thurman, play the six (holding mid) and she did a great job,” Baldizon said.
