Eldridge and Kavanaugh named St. Aloysius football cheer captains

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — 

Hendrix Eldridge and Madelyn Kavanaugh have been selected as the football cheer captains for St. Aloysius High School. Eldridge will serve as the team’s head captain, while Kavanaugh has been named co-captain.

The pair will lead the team under Head Coach Kirsten Golding after helping St. Aloysius capture the MHSAA Traditional Non-Tumbling Medium Division state championship last season.

For Eldridge, becoming head captain is the realization of a lifelong goal.

“It’s exciting, and I love all of my teammates, so I’m just proud to lead them,” Eldridge said.

Eldridge has been cheering at St. Aloysius since the fourth grade and said she has dreamed of this opportunity ever since she first put on a cheer uniform. She is a two-time Pin It Forward Award recipient and was named the team’s Most Improved Cheerleader during her freshman season.

Looking ahead, Eldridge said her goal is to help lead the Flashes to another state championship this season. After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Mississippi and major in psychology. She is the daughter of Brad and Callie Eldridge.

Kavanaugh, who has cheered her entire life, said she is excited to step into a leadership role.

“I’m excited and happy to be in this position because this has been my whole life, so I’m ready for it,” Kavanaugh said.

Kavanaugh began cheering with an All-Star team at the age of 3 and said she has always envisioned earning leadership opportunities. She was recently named an All-American cheerleader and also received the Rookie of the Year award.

She said her focus is on helping St. Aloysius win another state championship this season before pursuing her goal of cheering in college. She is the daughter of Michael and Katie Kavanaugh.
