VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Two Port Gibson natives returned to host their first football and basketball camp for the youth of Claiborne County this past weekend.
Despite the searing heat, students turned out Saturday, July 18, to participate and learn from two legendary Port Gibson natives.
Taylor Barnes and her brother Adarius Barnes returned to put the students through grueling workouts and practice for both basketball and football.
Taylor Barnes played basketball for the University of Memphis. During her junior year she averaged a career-high 9.3 points per game and led the Tigers with 74 assists. She then played basketball overseas.
Adarius Barnes played for the Blue Waves and as a senior in 2011, he rushed the ball 24 times for 390 yards and four touchdowns. After playing for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, he went on to play for the National Football League as a cornerback for the Detroit Lions.
