Julius Williams is back coaching football at Vicksburg High School
Julius Williams returns to Vicksburg High School as the Gators’ linebackers coach, bringing nearly two decades of coaching experience. He aims to instill a fast and physical style of play while also assisting with the baseball team.

Julius Williams is back on the football field at Vicksburg High School, where he has been named the Gators’ linebackers coach by head football coach Christopher Lacey with the start of the season less than a month away.
“It’s amazing to be back,” Williams said. “I’m a Gator, and I bleed green. It doesn’t matter what the sport is, I’m just going to give it my all. We’re going to play fast and physical, and we’re going to have each other’s backs on and off the field.”
Williams brings nearly two decades of coaching experience within the Vicksburg Warren School District to his new role. Before joining the high school staff, he spent nine years coaching at the junior high level.
A graduate of Crystal Springs High School, Williams played college football at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Oklahoma Panhandle State University. He later earned degrees from Jackson State University and Alcorn State University.
Williams said he always knew he wanted to become a coach after being inspired by one of his mentors, Malcolm Taylor.
Williams has spent the past 19 years coaching in the Vicksburg Warren School District. He was first hired under former Vicksburg High head football coach Alonzo Stevens. Although football has always been his passion, Williams also spent 10 years coaching basketball in the district. In 2015, he led Vicksburg Junior High School to a Little Six Championship.
He was later promoted to the high school by former head basketball coach Dellie C. Robinson, serving on Robinson’s staff for two seasons before coaching under former head coach Kelvin Carter for eight years. During his time with the basketball program, a player from each of those teams went on to sign a collegiate scholarship.
“We put a lot of boys in college, and it’s nothing like seeing a guy you coached 10 years ago now with his family,” Williams said.
In addition to his football duties, Williams will also assist with the Vicksburg High baseball team following the football season.
Reflecting on his career, Williams said he is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the Gators.
“For 19 years, I have been blessed to be a Gator, and I hope to continue being one until the day I hang up my whistle,” Williams said. “Being a Gator is more than a title. It’s a family, a tradition and a source of pride. I am grateful every day to be part of this amazing family, and to have my son become a Gator is amazing. He will be on the seventh-grade baseball team.”
