VJHS opens their season with a 42-6 win over Pearl
Vicksburg Junior High School began its football season with a commanding 42-6 victory over Pearl. Quarterback D’Chance Thigpen shone with five touchdowns, while the defense contributed significantly, setting the stage for their next game against Germantown.

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
Vicksburg Junior High School opened its football season in dominant fashion Tuesday with a 42-6 victory over Pearl.
The Gators improved to 1-0 under head coach Larry Carter Jr. after using big plays on both sides of the ball to quickly pull away from the Pirates.
Quarterback D’Chance Thigpen led Vicksburg’s offense with five total touchdowns, throwing four touchdown passes and rushing for another score.
Thigpen connected with Kaleb Sims for touchdown passes of 65 and 80 yards. He also found Cameron Pickett for a 57-yard touchdown and Sam Jackson for a 35-yard score.
Vicksburg’s defense also made its presence felt. Malcolm Turner recorded six tackles, while Rush Sudds finished with four tackles and two fumble recoveries.
Jackson added another major play for the Gators when he recovered a fumble and returned it 96 yards for a touchdown.
Vicksburg Junior High will host Germantown next Tuesday.
Other games
Vicksburg High School’s ninth-grade team fell just short against Pearl, losing 14-12. Mike Davis scored both touchdowns for VHS.
Warren Central’s ninth-grade team also suffered a close loss to Pearl, falling 21-14.
Michael Banks Jr. caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Jaydon Green for Warren Central. Richard Albert Jr. returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, and Andrew Patten Jr. scored on a 2-point conversion.
