Vicksburg’s Alex Lawson lands assistant cheer coaching position at Davidson College

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
Alex Lawson’s passion for cheerleading has taken her from the sidelines at Warren Central High School to the coaching ranks at the collegiate level.
The Vicksburg native announced Tuesday night on Facebook that she has been hired as the assistant cheer coach at Davidson College.
Lawson, a 2021 Warren Central graduate, built a reputation as both a leader and a role model during her time with the Lady Vikings. She served as captain of the basketball cheer team and was crowned Warren Central’s 2020 homecoming queen before continuing her education and cheer career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
At MGCCC, Lawson continued to shine on and off the mat. She earned the title of homecoming queen in 2022 while remaining active in the school’s cheer program. Her dedication in the classroom also stood out, as she was named to the president’s list during multiple semesters for outstanding academic achievement.
Lawson’s experience expanded beyond competition in 2022 when she joined the staff of the Universal Cheer Association, where she helped train and mentor cheerleaders from across the country.
Now, Lawson is taking the next step in her career as she joins the Davidson College cheer program.
