Vicksburg High opens season with 15-2 win over Raymond
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — The Vicksburg High School baseball team opened the season with a 15-2 victory over Raymond High School.
”We came out and played Gator baseball,” VHS Head Coach Brandon Kincaid. “We took advantage of some of there mistakes but we’re still going to come out here tomorrow and practice to get ready for Wednesday,”
The Gators wasted little time getting started. Nick Carson and Jacarey Burks both scored on passed balls before Ashton Harris delivered a two-run single to give VHS a 4-1 lead. Harrison Fisher later came home on another passed ball, and Carson was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Kobe Cartwright added to the outburst by stealing home, and Carson crossed the plate again as Vicksburg built an 8-1 advantage by the end of the first inning.
VHS kept the pressure on offensively. Harris added another two-run single, while Allan Allen and Fred Knight each recorded an RBI. Carson knocked in two more runs with a double, and JaCarey Burks drove in a run as well.
The game moved into the fourth inning with the score holding as the Gators secured the win.
Harris finished 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs, while Carson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Allen (1 RBI), Knight (1 RBI) and Cartwright each collected a hit.
On the mound, Allen struck out nine batters in the victory.
Vicksburg High will travel across town to face Warren Central on Wednesday.
