The National Weather Service in Jackson held a weather briefing this morning at 11 a.m., here is the latest.
A wintry mix of freezing rain is forecast to hit the Vicksburg, Warren County area later this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson. Expect up to a tenth to a quarter inch of ice accumulation.
Developing weather near us could upgrade Vicksburg, Warren County to a Winter Storm Warning from our current Winter Storm Advisory. Freezing rain is the predominant precipitation type, sleet is possible as well.
Roadways and travel will become hazardous and progressively deteriorate through the evening hours. If you do not have to travel, do not venture onto the roadways.
A large portion of the area will be below freezing for 36 to 48 hours. Some areas could be below freezing for up to 72 hours.
As forecast earlier, temperatures below freezing arrived last night around 8 p.m. The temperature will stay below freezing until around noon Wednesday but will drop below freezing again later that afternoon. Temperatures on Thursday will go above freezing for several hours.
With wind chill factored in the temperature will feel like it’s below zero on Wednesday.
