Historic Klondyke Makes National News for the Vicksburger Hamburger

VICKSBURG, Miss – The Historic Klondyke Trading Post was featured on Fox News Saturday Night for it’s Vicksburger Hamburger.

The segment by Fox News personality Jimmy Failla features the Vicksburger, a half pound hamburger with two grilled cheese for the buns. The Vicksburger has been a top seller for the Klondyke since it was created in 2015.

Failla picks a fun topic every week for the show and this week chose the Klondyke. He said the hamburger is what attracted him to look at the submission, but what sealed the deal was the fun crowd shown in a photo submitted by the Klondyke. “Look at these wonderful people!” exclaimed Failla in the segment. That comment was met with applause by other host at the desk and cheers from the crowd.

Klondyke owner Holly Ramo said, “We are thrilled that Vicksburg and the Klondyke were recognized nationally. They now know what Vicksburg has known for a long time. The Klondyke is a place for great people and good food.”

You can watch the segment at this link.

About the Klondyke

Ramo purchased the restaurant in 2020 and has added to the menu and nightlife offered there. The Historic Klondyke Trading Post has been in continuous operation for more than 60 years serving food, and a business called the Klondyke has been in that location since the 1930s. A restaurant, saloon or bar has been in the location since the 1890s when the Silver Moon Cafe sat on Glass Bayou.

The location’s long and varied history can be traced back to indigenous Americans trading in the bayou and the hillside that leads up to the old downtown area of Vicksburg. A band of pirates called the Kangaroos controlled the area in the 1830s until the “vicious gamblers” were run out of town. The Vicksburg Militia, under the guidance of Dr. Hugh Bodley, attacked the Kangaroos’ stronghold on July 5, 1835, and Dr. Bodley was killed in the attack. A monument to his efforts is located up the hill from the Klondyke at Farmer and First East streets. During the Civil War, the area was heavily used and included Union barracks.
