Hinds minor fire

RAYMOND, Miss — Davis Hall, a women’s residence hall at Hinds Community College’s Raymond Campus, sustained a minor fire late Sunday afternoon that was quickly extinguished.

A construction crew was working on the roof of the five-story Hinds building when a minor fire erupted in an unused dryer vent on the second floor of the residence hall, which was immediately evacuated.

There were no injuries and Davis Hall had only minor water and smoke damage inside. All students are expected to be allowed back into the residence hall late Sunday, except those on the second floor. The 44 affected students are being temporarily relocated and are scheduled to return to Davis within 24 hours.

A number of local fire departments responded, including Raymond, Utica, Learned, Byram, Pocahontas, and Hinds Emergency Operations Center.
