Kitchen Fire at Wendy’s

VICKSBURG, Miss. – There was a kitchen fire at Wendy’s on Orme Drive, near Pemberton last night.

Just before 6:30 p.m., employees at Wendy’s evacuated the building and called 911 when a fire started over the fryer. The first firefighters to arrive at the Orme Drive Wendy’s, near Pemberton, saw smoke and flames coming from the vent on the roof.

Vicksburg Fire Department entered the structure and determined the fire started in the fryer and they were able to extinguish it without further incident. No one was injured in the event.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps, in a text message, said, “At around 6:25 p.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department promptly responded to a structure fire at 10 Orme Drive, (Wendy’s) where all employees had safely evacuated the building. Upon arrival, firefighters identified smoke and flames coming from the vent on the roof. They quickly entered the structure and determined that the fire was originating from the fryer, which they swiftly extinguished. There were no additional incidents reported.”

An employee of Wendy’s was unable to give a time the restaurant will reopen. Repeated calls back to Wendy’s were unanswered, however their website list the restaurant will open at 5 p.m. today.
