Oak Hill St. fire destroys home, despite firefighters efforts

VICKSBURG, Miss. — A home on Oak Hill St. was destroyed in a fire Tuesday night, with firefighters facing difficult conditions as they worked to contain the blaze.
The Vicksburg Fire Department received a call about the fire at 1 Oak Hill St. at approximately 7:41 p.m., according to Fire Chief Derrick Stamps. Firefighters encountered challenges reaching the structure due to the steep and narrow incline leading to the property.
“Upon arrival, the firefighters were confronted with the daunting challenge of navigating their fire trucks up the steep, narrow hill leading to the property,” Stamps said. “Despite the treacherous incline, the brave fire[fighters] moved swiftly, hauling hoses and essential equipment up the towering slope.”
The home was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived. Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, but the structure was declared a total loss.
The homeowner had reported ongoing issues with the heating unit prior to the incident, Stamps said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported, and no one was inside the home when the fire started.
