VICKSBURG, Miss – Vicksburg Fire Department Captain Robert Belk was injured in an auto accident yesterday.

Fire Department Captain Belk was involved in a head-on collision yesterday and is facing surgery for spine and neck injuries.

In a post on social media, Robert’s wife, Sarah, said, “Robert was in an auto accident yesterday and sustained some injury to his C-spine. He is in UMMC and will have surgery today. Please add him to your prayers for a successful surgery and pain relief. Thank you to everyone who has called or text to check on him and us. We appreciate you all!”

“Captain Robert Belk was involved in a serious accident and is currently undergoing surgery today, Sunday, January 5, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center(UMMC),” said Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps. “On behalf of the dedicated members of the Vicksburg Fire Department, we extend our heartfelt prayers and support for the swift and complete recovery of Captain Robert Belk. His well-being is in our thoughts during this challenging time.”

Belk was promoted to Captain in a ceremony held at Central Fire Station in 2021. He was pinned by both current Chief Derrick Stamps and then Chief Craig Danczyk. Dana Myrick was also promoted at that ceremony to Lieutenant.
