Husband and Wife indicted in Warren County child sex crime case
WARREN COUNTY, Miss. (VDN) — A husband and wife in Warren County have been indicted on charges connected to a sex crime against a child. Darrous Liggins was indicted on a charge of sexual battery without consent, while his wife, Amanda Liggins, was indicted on a charge of accessory after the fact.
According to the indictment, the alleged offense occurred between Feb. 21, 2023, and Feb. 20, 2024. Darrous Liggins was also indicted as a habitual offender based on prior felony convictions for burglary of a dwelling/grand larceny and felony shoplifting, which occurred in 2003 and 2008.
With the indictments returned by a grand jury, both Darrous and Amanda Liggins will now move forward in the legal process, where they may seek a plea agreement or proceed to trial.
Mississippi Law on Sexual Battery:
- (1) A person is guilty of sexual battery if he or she engages in sexual penetration with:
- (a) Another person without his or her consent;
- (b) A mentally defective, mentally incapacitated or physically helpless person;
- (c) A child at least fourteen (14) but under sixteen (16) years of age, if the person is thirty-six (36) or more months older than the child; or
- (d) A child under the age of fourteen (14) years of age, if the person is twenty-four (24) or more months older than the child.
