FAYETTE, Miss. (JCSD) – The Jefferson County School District proudly announces the appointment of Mr. Ivan Mays as Head Football Coach at Jefferson County Middle School for the 2025–2026 school year. A native of Jefferson County and a proud graduate of its public schools, Coach Mays brings a strong football background and a deep commitment to developing local student-athletes.

A 2008 graduate of Jefferson County High School, Mays earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from Alcorn State University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education. His coaching career spans over a decade and includes roles at both junior high and high school levels.

As Junior High Defensive Coordinator (2013–2015), he led teams to three championship appearances, winning one title. From 2015 to 2018, he served as Defensive Line Coach at the high school level, guiding playoff-qualifying teams each season. He also worked as Assistant Recreation Director for the City of Natchez (2019–2020), where he organized a youth flag football league.

Coach Mays returns home eager to invest in the next generation of Tigers.

“It’s an honor to come back home and serve the community that raised me,” said Mays. “I believe in these kids, and I’m committed to building strong character, strong teams, and a strong foundation for Jefferson County football.”

Jefferson County High School Head Coach Roderick Holmes emphasized the value of Mays’s leadership: “A strong feeder program is the backbone of any great high school team. Coach Mays understands what it takes to win—and how to prepare young men for the next level.”

Athletic Director Lorenzo Thomas added, “Coach Mays brings passion, discipline, and purpose to our football program. His leadership will be a game-changer for our middle school athletes.”
