Mincer Minor IV signs baseball scholarship to Mississippi Delta CC
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Vicksburg High School senior Mincer Minor IV celebrated a major milestone Wednesday by signing his official baseball scholarship. Minor will continue both his academic and athletic career at Mississippi Delta Community College.
“I chose Mississippi Delta because they made me feel at home, and the coach was a cool guy—I felt wanted there,” Minor said.
Minor began playing baseball at just three years old, introduced to the sport by his father. He continued through elementary school and into Vicksburg Junior High, quickly distinguishing himself as a standout.
By seventh grade, Minor was already playing with the varsity squad, eventually earning a spot on the high school team. During his high school career, he helped lead the Vicksburg Gators to two district championships and four consecutive postseason appearances.
“It felt good to win both of them because we earned a bye week in that first round, so it was always good to get a look at our competition,” Minor said.
As a senior under Head Coach Brandon Kincaid, Minor tallied 16 hits and eight RBIs. His standout performance came in an 18-8 win over Greenville, where he went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in four runs.
Minor’s athletic talent extends beyond the baseball field. He also led the VHS basketball team in scoring, averaging 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists per game.
In addition to his baseball scholarship, Minor previously signed a football scholarship with Mississippi Delta as well, having been named All-District at the safety position.
“It’s exciting because a lot of people don’t go to college to play even one sport, so to play two is a blessing,” he said.
Minor is the son of Mincer Minor III and Dr. LaToya Sims-Allen.
“I want to thank my parents, grandparents, and friends who motivated me,” he said. “A special thank you goes out to my grandmother who recently passed away—she never missed a game.”
